Santa Clara – If there was any speculation that Jimmy Garoppolo’s job was in jeopardy due to injuries. General Manager John Lynch and Head Coach Kyle Shanahan cleared that up today during the team exit interviews. Garoppolo has suffered injuries for two years since going the team in 2017.
“Kyle and I both have spoken and spoken fairly directly as to the fact that we expect [QB] Jimmy [Garoppolo] to be our quarterback and that’s consistently met with other stories,” said Lynch.
“So, everyone asks about the quarterback position,” Shanahan said. “It is different this year. First time, I think in three years, I don’t know the exact three people that we’re bringing because [QB] C.J. [Beathard] is an unrestricted free agent, [QB] Nick [Mullens] is a free agent coming off a pretty bad injury, which probably won’t get him back until training camp. So, we know we’ve got to fill that out. At least we’ve got to make some decisions in that standpoint because we don’t have three guys exactly in their contract again, but nothing new with Jim. Same deal with him.”

Trent Williams spoke about his free agency this season:
“Honestly, man it don’t matter to me, San Francisco will be the lead candidate regardless,” Williams explained. “Even if it does make it to free agency it won’t be because I’m trying to go somewhere else, simply just because I want to see my value. It’s been 11 years in this league and I’ve yet to see a franchise Left Tackle go to the open market. I think it’d be kind of interesting to see what that value holds.”
Update on Nick Bosa:
“Bosa is doing great in his recovery,” Lynch said. “He had a significant injury to his knee, but like everything in life, he attacks it head on and a hundred percent. The only thing with him is pulling him back so he’s not doing too much. We’ve kept in good contact with Nick, with the people who he’s training with. With COVID, we felt like it was best to get him out of the building and he went down to Orange County. He’s been down there working with some great people and really making tremendous progress. We’re very pleased with where he’s at.”
Update on Defensive Coordinator Robert Saleh:
Saleh is a hot topic this offseason. What he’s sone with the 49ers defense has got him on many teams wish list for a head coaching job. This morning three head coaching jobs (Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers and New York Jets) became available pink slips were handed out. So far three teams have requested permission to speak to Saleh: Falcons, Detroit Lions, and Jaguars.
“Yeah, so at this point, Jacksonville and Atlanta. Oh, Detroit as well,” said Lynch.
