Warriors Retire Iguodala’s Jersey

San Francisco – It was a magical day for Andre Iguodala, the former Warriors star who first donned the number 9 jersey in 2013. Iguodala had already made a name for himself with the Philadelphia 76ers, playing alongside Allen Iverson, before continuing his career with the Denver Nuggets.

In 2013, Iguodala turned down a five-year deal with Denver after being traded from Philadelphia and instead signed with the Golden State Warriors. From there, he cemented his legacy alongside a young Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green. Four championships and a Finals MVP later, Iguodala became the first of that iconic quartet and the first Warriors player to have his jersey retired at Chase Center.

The Warriors organization honored Andre Iguodala’s retirement with a special ceremony, unveiling his medallion in Thrive City before the game. Team owners, the Warriors’ former Executives, former players, and Iguodala’s family joined in celebrating this prestigious moment.

After the Warriors’ 126-102 win over the Dallas Mavericks, a special ceremony was held to raise Iguodala’s jersey to the rafters. Current head coach Steve Kerr reflected on his first season with the team and recalled asking Iguodala to come off the bench, a move that helped shape their success. Then, Stephen Curry delivered a heartfelt speech about how much Iguodala meant to both the team and himself during their championship run.

Curry reflected on the special bond the team formed when Iguodala first arrived in 2013.

Iguodala became the seventh Warriors player to have his jersey retired, joining Wilt Chamberlain, Chris Mullin, Nate Thurmond, Al Attles, Rick Barry, and Tom Meschery. Standing before a sellout crowd, he expressed his gratitude to the fans, the organization, and its employees.

“None of this would have happened without the fans.”
