San Francisco – The Warriors record their second consecutive win to start the California Classic Summer League. The team’s 92-68 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers seemed effortless as they’ve dominated teams with good ball movement and a strong presence from Ethan Thompson.
Thompson is a 6’5 guard who attended Oregon State and represented the Puerto Rico national team. He went undrafted in the NBA 2021 Draft and has since tried out for many teams, but this summer he’s making a name for himself as he has led all scores for both wins for the Warriors.
Today he scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds. Thompson talks about his success and team chemistry. Daeqwon Plowden added 14 points and Mantas Rubstavicius had 12 points.
Warriors Summer League head coach Anthony Vereen also talked about Thompson’s game and his ability to improve as they head for Las Vegas next week.
The Lakers were without Bronny James who played 21 minutes in his summer league debut Saturday against the Sacramento Kings. James went 2-for-9 in the 108-94 loss and scored 4 points. The rookie sat out today’s game with knee swelling. He sat at the very end of the bench dressed. By the end of the third period, the crowd began to chant “We want Bronny!” Fans were disappointed he was unavailable to play today.
