Oracle Park Erupts as Giants Beat Dodgers on Bailey’s Slam

San Francisco – Don’t stop believing, Giants fans! In front of a roaring, sold-out crowd of more than 40,000, Patrick Bailey crushed a high fastball into the seats for a walk-off grand slam, sending Oracle Park into a frenzy and giving San Francisco a thrilling game-one victory. With the 5-1 win over the rival Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants have now gone 14-4 over their last 18 games, keeping their hot streak alive.

“It’s been extremes all year, and we’re riding this one right now,” said manager Bob Melvin. “It’s taken everybody to win these games.”

Justin Verlander brought the energy early, setting the tone with seven gutsy innings. He allowed just four hits, four walks, and a lone home run while relying on some stellar defense behind him to shut down L.A.’s big bats. On the flip side, Yoshinobu Yamamoto was nearly untouchable, striking out 10 while giving up only one hit and one run, but it wasn’t enough to silence the Giants’ momentum on this electric night in San Francisco.

“That was a special game,” Justin Verlander said. “That was one of the more fun games in a regular season I’ve been a part of. Obviously, we know where we’re at, playing the Dodgers at home. It was one of those games that had a bit of a playoff atmosphere to it from the beginning, and one of those games that you just never know who’s going to step up and make a great play and take a great at-bat.”

Things took flight in extra innings when the Giants capitalized on closer Tanner Scott. He issued a leadoff walk to Jung Hoo Lee, then intentionally put Casey Schmitt on to load the bases, with Wilmer Flores (replaced by Christian Koss as a pinch-runner) already starting the inning at second. That’s when Patrick Bailey delivered the moment of the night, blasting a walk-off grand slam that sent Oracle Park into chaos and sealed a dramatic Giants win.

San Francisco struck first when Rafael Devers worked a walk in the opening frame and Willy Adames followed with an RBI double to give San Francisco a 1-0 lead over the Dodgers.

The Giants’ defense kept LA quiet through the middle innings. In the fourth, with two on and two outs, Andy Pages grounded to third where Matt Chapman made a slick play and fired a rocket to Dominic Smith at first to end the threat. Smith exited the game with a left leg inury and did not return.

“He’s going to get some imaging tomorrow,” said Melvin. “Usually those things are a little bit tougher, but I think it’s higher [on his hamstring], which is a little bit better. We’re not sure where it’s going to go. But that just shows you, in a game of inches like that, he has to get out there for a stretch and basically does the splits to get it. It ended up being a huge part of the game.”

The Dodgers finally broke through in the seventh. Michael Conforto stepped up and launched a solo shot to right, tying the game 1-1 and shifting the momentum.

Neither side could push across another run in regulation, setting up extra-inning drama. With the bases loaded in the 10th, Patrick Bailey delivered the moment of the night, crushing a walk-off grand slam that sent Oracle Park into chaos and sealed a thrilling Giants victory.

Verlander Leads Giants Into High-Stakes Series vs. Dodgers

The best rivalry in baseball renews tonight as the Giants host the Los Angeles Dodgers, setting the stage for a series that could heavily influence the division race down the stretch. San Francisco has been red hot, winning 13 of its last 17 games, but now sit two games behind the New York Mets in the Wild Card race after an 8-3 loss to the Texas Rangers today.

With only a few weeks left in the regular season, every game carries extra weight, and this series could be pivotal in keeping the Giants in contention. Manager Bob Melvin emphasized the importance of maintaining their momentum against a tough Dodgers lineup.

On the mound, Justin Verlander gets the start for San Francisco. The veteran ace has been in top form, posting a 2.61 ERA over his last nine outings, and will be counted on to set the tone in what promises to be an intense showdown.

The Dodgers, meanwhile, enter the series looking to solidify their own postseason position, powered by a lineup that continues to rank among the most dangerous in baseball. With both teams chasing October, fans can expect a playoff-like atmosphere at Oracle Park.
