Steve Kerr talks minute restrictions for Klay and Draymond

San Francisco – Warriors head coach Steve Kerr talked minute restrictions pregame for Klay Thompson who is playing his first preseason game and Draymond Green who returned after a week off.

HOW MANY MINUTES KLAY THOMPSON IS EXPECTED TO PLAY TONIGHT:

“Fifteen or sixteen. Two runs, both in the first half. He won’t play in the second half.”

IF HE’S GOING TO RAMP UP THE MINUTES TO REGULAR SEASON LEVELS TONIGHT:

“Not quite, but they’ll get closer. I think Draymond will be a little less than Loon (Kevon Looney), Wiggs (Andrew Wiggins), and Steph (Stephen Curry). We’ll bump it up a little bit, and we’ll kind of feel it as we go too. If the game calls for it, they could close the game, but if the game is a little out of hand, they might just call it a night.”

HIS EXPECTATIONS FOR KLAY THOMPSON TONIGHT:

“I expect him to shoot every time. Just going to be really honest. He’ll be thrilled to be out there. He can’t wait. I‘m excited and I think our fans are excited. It’s good to have him back.”

JORDAN POOLE’S ROLE WITH THE TEAM WHEN HE’S THE SIXTH MAN:

“Just exactly what he’s doing now. Whether he’s starting or not, we don’t need anything different. We just need his playmaking and his shot creation. It’s been fun watching him with Donte (DiVincenzo) because they can each handle the ball in a pick-and-roll and play off the ball. They seem to be a really good combination. The fact that James (Wiseman) is out as a lob threat with both guys has been really interesting to watch. We may throw Wiggs out there with him tonight to see what that combination looks like. That’s something we’ve had in mind going into the regular season. We still really haven’t had a chance to mix and match with some of our lineups, so that’s one that we’ll probably look at tonight.”

TRYING TO USE ROTATIONS TONIGHT HE MIGHT USE OPENING NIGHT:

“A little bit. As much as we can, but we’re limited because of Klay’s restrictions and Draymond’s restrictions and Moses (Moody) is out by the way. He won’t play (right calf soreness). It’s not exactly what it’s going to look like and frankly, we are still learning about some of these different combinations. I think that will continue for the first few weeks of the season at least. We have to look at different combinations and see what we want to do.”
