Warriors Set a Franchise Record For 3’s Despite Loss to Mavericks

San Francisco – It was a three-point spectacle at Chase Center tonight, with both the Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks lighting it up from beyond the arc. Golden State set a franchise record for made threes, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Luka Dončić, who delivered a masterful performance with a triple-double in what was arguably his best game of the season.

The Warriors fell to the Mavericks 143-132, largely due to Dončić’s dominance. He scored 45 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and dished out 13 assists, spearheading Dallas’ offense and creating open looks for his teammates. Dončić was nearly unstoppable, and every time Golden State mounted a rally, the Mavericks stayed one step ahead to secure the victory.

The Warriors hit a season-high 50% of their attempts from 3-point range, tying their franchise record with 27 made threes (previously achieved on 4/9/23 at Portland and 5/8/21 vs. Oklahoma City). Golden State also set a new franchise record with 18 made threes in the first half, surpassing their previous record of 17 (set on 10/29/18 at Chicago). Additionally, their 18 first-half threes matched the NBA’s record for most threes made in a half, a feat accomplished six times, including tonight.

“No team could miss, I think they had 18 threes at halftime and we were still up which is insane,” said Doncic. “I thought nobody could miss today. Really fun game, a lot of makes but it was a physical game too.”

Doncic had 28 points to end the first half, he was unstoppable making nearly every shot attempt. The Warriors responded by raining threes to narrow the gap, with Buddy Hield hitting two consecutive triples and adding another to make it a 52-62 game. Despite Dončić’s dominance, Golden State worked hard to stay within 10 points. Draymond Green scored a season-high 21 points, including a season-best five made three-pointers.

The Warriors (27) and Mavericks (21) combined for 48 three-pointers, setting a new NBA record for the most made in a single game. In the first half alone, the teams combined for 30 three-pointers, the most in any half in NBA history. Additionally, both teams recorded 23 or more assists in the first half, marking the first time this feat has been achieved since play-by-play tracking began in the 1997-98 season.

Stephen Curry recorded his third double-double of the season, notching his 13th game with 20 or more points and his third with double-digit assists. He drained seven three-pointers, just one shy of his season-high of eight. It was also his NBA-record 137th game with seven or more made threes—no other player has more than 51 such games. Andrew Wiggins added his eighth game of 20 or more points this season, tying his season-high with five made three-pointers.

Klay Thompson returned to Chase Center more focused than ever after being warmly greeted by 400 staff members in the tunnel during his last appearance. Thompson delivered a stellar performance, scoring 29 points and grabbing 5 rebounds while leading his team to victory against his former squad. He showed no mercy, sinking threes with ease and disrupting the Warriors’ offense throughout the game.

“He was fired up, showed his emotion coming back here,” Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said on Thompson’s performance. “Winning championships and being in a lot of battles with those guys on the other side. Again, just his confidence to be able to make big shots in the rhythm of the offense, and then defensively, he was big for us. But just his comfort level, to understand playing with Luka (Dončić) and Ky (Kyrie Irving), it takes time, but you can see that he’s getting comfortable, again, he played great for us tonight.”

Kerr on the Addition of Dennis Schroder

Dennis Schroder

The Warriors have added Dennis Schroder to their roster in a trade that sent injured De’Anthony Melton to the Brooklyn Nets. Schroder is a dynamic player on both ends of the floor, bringing explosive scoring to their offense while bolstering their defense with his outstanding skills. He is expected to report to Chase Center tomorrow for his physical.

“It’s a great pickup for the Warriors,” said Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd. “A vet who understands how to win can play both on the ball and off the ball, so he fits. It’s a great pickup for them.”
