Curry Sets NBA Record With 4,000 3s in Win over Kings

San Francisco – Stephen Curry reached another historic milestone in his sixteen-year career, becoming the first NBA player to make 4,000 career regular season three-pointers. In front of a sold-out crowd, he surpassed legendary sharpshooters like Ray Allen and Reggie Miller. The Warriors celebrated his achievement with a 130-104 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

“8000? Yeah, who knows, who knows,” said head coach Steve Kerr on Curry’s record. “It just seems like it was not too long ago that he broke the record, what was that? Less than 3000? Yeah, he just keeps going. The way he keeps himself in shape and conditioned, in rhythm, he’s going to make another 1000 for sure, that’s what I would guess. But who knows.”

Curry knocks down his 4,000 3.

Curry finished the night with 11 points and 5 assists. It wasn’t his best performance, as the Kings tightly defended him with face-guarding and top-lock coverage, limiting his shot opportunities. However, his teammates stepped up, knocking down threes across the floor. Curry hit his first of the two needed three-pointers in the first quarter, while Moses Moody assisted on his milestone shot in the third quarter, one that nearly resulted in a turnover.

Draymond Green scored a season-high 23 points, sinking four three-pointers just one shy of his season-best. The Warriors improved to 7-1 this season when he made three or more threes. Green set the tone early, knocking down his first two three-pointers to spark momentum and help Golden State build a 10-point lead in the first quarter.

The Warriors secured their sixth consecutive win, marking their longest winning streak of the season (previously five games, achieved three times). Tonight’s victory also extended their home winning streak at Chase Center to six games, the longest of the season. Golden State has now won 13 of its last 15 games and sits 10 games above .500 for the first time this season.

The Warriors made a season-high tying 56.4% of the team’s attempts from three (1/2 vs. PHI). Golden State improved to 9-0 when making at least 50% of the team’s field goal attempts. Eight Warriors scored in double figures tonight, marking the fifth time in the last 10 seasons the Warriors have accomplished the feat (2/12/24 vs. UTA, 12/28/23 vs. MIA, 1/13/23 vs. SAS, 2/24/22 vs. POR).

Quinten Post made three 3-point baskets in the last two games consecutively. Moses Moody dished out a career-high six assists and scored 17 points, Jonathan Kuminga returned to play after a 31-game absence due to a right ankle sprain. Kuminga scored 18 points in 19 minutes and grabbed 3 rebounds. Gary Payton ll made three 3-point baskets and has made seven threes (on 10 attempts) over his last two games combined. Golden State has improved to 13-1 in games that Jimmy Butler has played.

WARRIORS HEAD COACH STEVE KERR

ON IF JONATHAN KUMINGA WILL HAVE A MINUTES RESTRICTION TONIGHT:

“No. But I think it’s safe to say he’s not going to play a huge number of minutes. It’s part of the process, it’s the last step of the process of rehab like he’s had. We’ll throw him out there for short bursts. He’ll go from there.”

ON POSSIBLE LINEUPS WITH KUMINGA, JIMMY BUTLER III, AND DRAYMOND GREEN:

“Yeah I mean we definitely want to get to that lineup at some point. My gut is BP (Brandin Podziemski) should be with that lineup. But maybe I’m thinking about it wrong, I’m thinking about BP’s playmaking but with Jimmy and Draymond maybe we have enough playmaking. Maybe we could put a shooter out there like Moses (Moody) or Buddy (Hield). That’s definitely a lineup that we’re thinking of.”

ON WHAT HE WILL BE LOOKING FOR FROM JONATHAN KUMINGA TONIGHT:

“No, I mean I’m not trying to put any pressure on him. I don’t have expectations for him tonight other than just play hard. As long as he plays hard, crashes the glass on offense, and sprints the floor, then good stuff will happen. But rhythm takes time, especially if you’ve been out for 10 weeks. He’ll find his rhythm but I’m not expecting him to tear it up tonight and be right back to where he was, that will come.”
