San Francisco – The San Francisco Giants have missed the postseason for the fourth consecutive year, triggering a leadership shake-up as the organization looks to reset its direction. Earlier this week, the Giants announced they had parted ways with manager Bob Melvin after just two seasons.
This morning, President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey and General Manager Zack Minasian held the team’s final press conference of the season at Oracle Park. They addressed the state of the franchise and outlined next steps in the search for a new manager.
Despite recent speculation, the Giants are not considering a reunion with former manager Bruce Bochy, who mutually agreed to part ways with the Texas Rangers on Monday. Bochy, who led Texas to a World Series title in 2023, managed the Giants to three championships between 2010 and 2014. However, Posey indicated that the search will prioritize forward-thinking candidates aligned with the organization’s long-term goals.
“I don’t even know what Bochy’s plans are, whether he wants to continue managing or not,” Posey said. “The door is always open for some sort of role here but, I don’t see us going that route with Bochy.”
The Giants are looking to evaluate new managerial candidates as they aim for a fresh start. Since Bruce Bochy’s departure in 2019, the team has had two different managers. Gabe Kapler took over in 2020, followed by Melvin, who was hired on October 25, 2023. Despite several roster moves at the trade deadline, San Francisco finished the season with a .500 record at 81–81.
