Santa Clara – As training camp comes to a close, the 49ers feel confident about their preparations for the upcoming season. The NFL has worked diligently to create a safe environment for a season filled with uncertainties. While players are uncertain about playing in empty stadiums, they anticipate the intensity of competition will remain unchanged.
“I feel really good coming out of training camp,” said T Mike McGlinchey. “I feel very prepared, in the best shape I’ve ever been, as confident as I’ve ever felt, and excited to get started. You don’t want to approach Week One in any way other than being at your best.”
“Even in a normal training camp, you never feel like you have enough time,” said Defensive Coordinator Robert Saleh. “You always want more—more time, more practice reps. I think Kyle [Shanahan] has done a phenomenal job coordinating with the staff to prepare these players and provide them with the evaluations they deserve.”
McGlinchey has earned rave reviews from the coaching staff and teammates alike. Entering his third season, McGlinchey is focused on earning another shot at the Super Bowl. The entire team acknowledges they could have performed better last season. While McGlinchey feels he gave his all last year, he believes there is room to elevate his performance this season.
“It is my third year in this offense, and it’s an opportunity to build on what I was doing at the end of last year,” said McGlinchey. “The confidence I gained through my offseason studies, the training I completed with our strength and conditioning staff, and the way I’ve played over the past month—it’s all starting to come together.”
