CLEVELAND – Stephen Curry finished with 33 points for his ninth straight game scoring 30-plus points to lead the Warriors to a 119-101 victory over the Cavaliers on Thursday night. Golden State is on a season-high four-game winning streak.
“He’s been incredible lately, even by Steph standards,” said Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. “It’s a result of a lifetime of training and hard work, but he just does that night after night. We’re in a very good place right now. The guys feel good about themselves.”
A night after Curry shot 14-of-20 from the field, including 11-of-16 from three-point territory, he finished with 42 points. Not his best night knocking down shots, Curry went 12-of-25 from the floor and 4-of-13 on threes. Credit the Cavaliers for playing tough perimeter defense on forcing him to drive to the basket.
At halftime Curry scored 13 points but shot 5-of-13 from the floor and missed all seven of his three-point attempts in the first half.
Golden State took control of the game in the second quarter, going on a 31-10 run to go up 59-41. The Warriors erased an 11-point lead that Cleveland built in the first quarter and never looked back.
Andrew Wiggins added 23 points, six rebounds and six assists, Juan Toscano-Anderson scored a career-high 20 points off the bench and Draymond Green scored five points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.
“Steph and Draymond are so good and with their experience, they’re just deadly,” Cavaliers head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said. “And the other guys play their roles to a ‘T.”
Jordan Poole scored 14 points and Damion Lee chipped in 11 points off the bench, helping Golden State’s bench outscore Cleveland’s bench 44-23.
After missing the last two games with a groin injury, Collin Sexton scored a team-high 30 points. Sexton had 16 points at halftime after scoring seven points in the first quarter for the Cavaliers
Center Jarrett Allen had 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Darius Garland had 20 points and seven assists for the Cleveland, who have lost 16 of their last 17 games to the Warriors. The Cavaliers last win against the Golden State came in Game 4 of the 2017 NBA Finals.
The Warriors complete the sweep of the season series against and hand Cleveland their eighth loss in a row with a 129-98 win on Feb. 15 behind Curry’s 36 points in three quarters.
Off to a good start on their season-long five game road trip, Golden State hopes to continue their winning ways with a win against the Celtics in Boston on Saturday night.
