Aiyuk and Williams end holdout, sign new contracts

Santa Clara – 49ers Wide Receiver Brandon Aiyuk held out OTAs, camp, and the preseason until his contract negotiations were met for the upcoming season. On Friday, August 30, 2024, the team announced they signed All-Pro WR to a four-year extension worth $120 million (with $45 guaranteed at signing) through the 2028 season.

“We were thrilled to draft Brandon in 2020 and are now equally excited to have him in the fold for years to come,” said President of Football Operations and General Manager John Lynch. “Brandon is a special talent who is a warrior on the field and plays with a passion that we look for in 49ers. We look forward to Brandon continuing to be part of what we strive to accomplish as an organization.”

Aiyuk (6-0, 200) was originally selected by the 49ers in the first round (25th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. Over the past four seasons (2020-23), he has appeared in 62 games (60 starts) and registered 269 receptions for 3,931 yards (14.6 average) and 25 touchdowns. He has also started in nine postseason contests and added 24 receptions for 393 yards (16.4 average) and one touchdown.

Aiyuk earned Associated Press Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2023. In 16 games (all starts), he tallied 75 receptions for a career-high 1,342 yards (17.9 average) and seven touchdowns. His 1,342 yards ranked seventh in the NFL and marked his second-consecutive 1,000-yard season, making him the first 49ers wide receiver to register back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons since Anquan Boldin in the 2013-14 seasons. His 17.9 yards per reception was the second-highest mark in the NFL.

Aiyuk expressed his thoughts on the holdout and his excitement to rejoin his teammates to start the season:

Trent Williams had no plans of retiring anytime soon. The 49ers’ star Left Tackle sat out camp and the preseason in hopes of securing a new contract. Williams returned to the facility today with joy, embracing teammates and coaches. Happy to be back, Williams felt rejuvenated and ready to start the season.

Williams signed a three-year, $82.66 million deal that included $48 million guaranteed at signing. He will now earn a league-high salary of up to $28 million per year for an offensive lineman. Although there wasn’t much discussion during Williams’ holdout, everything came together at the last minute, allowing him to be here for this week’s practice.
